Regenerative Medicine Q & A

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a natural, minimally invasive therapy used to alleviate chronic pain and inflammation. Regenerative medicine uses stem cells that contain biological materials necessary for tissue healing and repair. These materials include red blood cells and cells that can differentiate into bone, cartilage, ligaments, muscles, and skin.

Stem cells also contain anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating chemicals to fight off inflammation, and in turn, reduce pain.  Regenerative medicine materials are injected into injured tissues to reduce chronic inflammation and speed up your body’s natural healing response on a cellular level.

How does regenerative medicine work?

Regenerative medicine materials are collected from tissue samples of blood cells, umbilical cord tissue, placental tissue, adipose tissue, and Meyer’s jelly. These tissue samples are processed to separate out stem cells and other regenerative materials necessary for treatment.

The regenerative materials are combined with thickening agents to create a gel-like solution that is injected into injured joints, muscles, and ligaments with a sterile syringe. Once injected, the regenerative materials identify the tissues in the treatment area and begin to replicate those tissues on a cellular level.

Over the following weeks and months, these cells differentiate and grow to replace or repair the original, damaged tissues. The team may recommend a series of injections spaced out over several weeks in order to get the maximum results. In some cases, you may notice a decrease in pain and inflammation in as little as two weeks after treatment.

After your injection, you may experience mild soreness or numbness at the injection site for 1-2 days. You should also avoid strenuous activities for 1-2 days, but you should be able to return to your normal activities after that.
